My Narrative

  My Reflection
I have been learning to write a narrative. A narrative is a made up story with a problem. I really enjoyed planning my narrative. Something I found challenging was writing my narrative. My next step is to use more detail in my narrative.

Identifying different elapsed times

My Reflection

I could find the correct times. I found this easy because I was lucky and came across a time difference calculator. Next time I would learn how to calculate the time differences by my self.

Telling and Measuring Time

I am learning to calculate elapsed time and say how much time has passed. I could calculate the time because I know how to add time. I found this easy because I was able to understand the questions easily. My next step is to not rely on the things around me.

Making a Prediction

I am learning to make a prediction. I was able to find key words to help with my prediction. It was easy because I had the movie trailer  and the song. My next step is to write a longer and better prediction.

A Moment in Time

I have been learning to write about a moment in time. I found this easy because I had a clear memory about my event. Something I can do to improve my writing is by using even better words in my text. My next step is to use a simile.

My Speech 2019

I am learning to write the body of a speech. It was easy because I used PEEL paragraphs. I felt really nervous presenting my speech because I have never been confident with 25 people staring at me while I'm saying a speech.
My next step is to write a persuasive speech using more powerful words i my speech.

Alphabet Symmetry Challenge

I am learning to find lines of symmetry. It was easy because lines of symmetry are just like mirror lines.
My next step is to find lines of symmetry from more complicated shapes.

Summarising a Text

I am learning to summarise information by retelling main events in a text. I can understand a text as I read it, gather information on the plot, character, theme, tone,style and narrator. I found this easy because we already had an example. My next step is to summarise a text in my own words and in a short amount

I am learning to research and find things on google. I found this Easy because we had a Tiritiri Matangi app wit all the answers already. My next step is to research for information in a better way

I was learning to identify the features of the persuasive writing. I found this interesting because it was challenging. I found this easy because all you have to do is just know what the words mean.
My next step is to do this with concentration.

I was learning about Matariki. I was able to find the information using different apps.
It was hard because I don't study about my culture that much and I only do at school.
My next step is to put the information into bigger paragraphs.

I am learning to write variety of sentences to use in my stories to make them more interesting for my readers.  My favourite sentence type was the one, two, three. A sentence I found tricky was the two word sentence. Because It had so little amount of words it was hard to find a text. My next step is to use a variety of interesting sentences in my writing.

Converting Improper to Mixed Fractions

I was learning to convert improper fractions to mixed fractions. I thought it was easy because when I first started learning maths it was one of the first things I learned in maths. My next step is to explain mixed fractions and improper fractions.

We are starting a new novel called holes by Louis Sachar. This is my prediction about what I think the story is about.

Information Report

I have been learning to write an information report. An information report needs to have a beginning, middle and conclusion. It includes facts and be written in the present tense. I found this tricky because I don't study NZ that much. My next step is to make my information report more third person and to add more detail in my paragraphs.

Fact or Opinion

I have been learning the difference between facts and opinions. A fact is something that can be proved true. An opinion is something someone thinks or feels about something. I know something is an opinion when I see opinion signal words like better and worst. My next step is to tell the difference of Facts and Opinions faster and in a different way.

ANZAC A-Z Challenge

Decimal Place Value

I have been learning to about the place value of decimals in numbers. It was easy because I've been practising decimals for over 4 years.  My next step is to explain how I worked it out.

Summarising Information

Reflection

I have peen learning to find information by choosing the most important Information.  Summarising is Reading a text then rewriting it in your own words.  I found this interesting because I learned how many things Edmund Hillary did to help other people and for himself.  I found summarising the information easy because I know lots about this person and I know many different ways to find information.  My next step is to get more information and use harder words with many different types of information. 

Using prior knowledge and experience to understand the text.

My Reflection

I was learning to respond to text using my prior knowledge and experience.  I found it easy because I  like reading.  My next step is to do it with bigger sentences and to be specific. 

Statistical investigation

 

My Reflection

I have been learning to use the statistical enquiry cycle to carry out an investigation. My investigation was about whats your favourite dinosaur. I found making the bar graph the most challenging part because I have never done any then about making graphs.  I now know how to make a bar graph and collect data easily and quickly. MY next step is to do a bigger investigation with more people.

My reflection

I have been learning to identify parts of a graph.  I found this easy because I've done this many times.   My next step is to  create my own graph  doing mini inquiry.

My Welcome Post 2019

Welcome to my Year 5 learning blog. This year I am in room 24 and my teachers are Mrs Melville and Mrs Rayner.  I enjoy maths, sports and other activities that help your brain.  A goal that I have this year is to get lots of badges.  I hope you will enjoy my blog and leave lots of feed back.
